Our Funding Pillars

The Foundation’s funding pillars represent the focus of our grantmaking program and are strategically aligned with the needs and priorities of the communities we serve.

Healthcare Tech Concept

Innovation

Innovations in life‑changing technologies continue to revolutionize today’s health care landscape. The Foundation is committed to the next 100 years of better health in our community through strategic investments in innovative programs, new medical technologies and procedures, and training and education that strengthen the people and organizations providing care.

Behavioral Health

Saint Francis Foundation serves a large and diverse urban population in San Francisco. Through grants and community partnerships, the Foundation is focused on compassionate, integrated behavioral health and wellness for neighbors who are medically vulnerable and may experience substance use or mental health challenges. We support community‑based programs that reach people early, reduce crises, and connect them with continuing care and support in their families and communities.

Aging

To meet the complex health and wellness needs of San Francisco’s aging population, the Foundation supports programs that promote well‑being, affordable care, and dignity for older adults, including those facing illness or hardship earlier in life. By investing in community‑based services, tools, and training, we help strengthen health, safety, and independence for vulnerable older residents.

Crisis Management and Response

When a crisis strikes, individuals and communities need compassionate, high‑quality, and affordable care. The Foundation helps safeguard San Franciscans during acute emergencies like earthquakes and fires and supports partners responding to prolonged public health challenges such as the HIV/AIDS epidemic, chronic homelessness, and infectious diseases including COVID‑19.
