About the Foundation

Our Mission

The mission of the Saint Francis Foundation is to raise funds and make grants that support and enhance access to exceptional health care, wellness, and compassionate support for people and communities in San Francisco.

Founded in 1979, the Saint Francis Foundation is a San Francisco-based non-profit organization entrusted to provide philanthropic support to community health outcomes. Through the legacy and generosity of donors, the Foundation is responsible for shepherding funds and reviewing and distributing grants with the goal of fostering outstanding health services to the local community focusing on innovation, behavioral health, aging, and crisis response.

What We Care About

SFF Innovation

Innovation

The Foundation is committed to making strategic investments in innovative programs, new medical technologies and procedures, and training and education that strengthen the people and organizations providing care.

Behavioral / mental health

Behavioral Health

Saint Francis Foundation serves a large and diverse urban population in San Francisco. Through grants and community partnerships, the Foundation is focused on compassionate, integrated behavioral health and wellness for neighbors who are medically vulnerable and may experience substance use or mental health challenges.

Older coupe

Aging

To meet the complex health and wellness needs of San Francisco’s aging population, the Foundation supports programs that promote well‑being, affordable care, and dignity for older adults, including those facing illness or hardship earlier in life. By investing in community‑based services, tools, and training, we help strengthen health, safety, and independence for vulnerable older residents.

Crisis Management and Response

When a crisis strikes, individuals and communities need compassionate, high‑quality, and affordable care. The Foundation helps safeguard San Franciscans during acute emergencies like earthquakes and fires and supports partners responding to prolonged public health challenges such as the HIV/AIDS epidemic, chronic homelessness, and infectious diseases including COVID‑19.
