Honoring the Butler Family at the Bothin Burn Center

Foundation News & Updates

On May 26, 2026, Saint Francis Foundation and UCSF Health Hyde Hospital’s Bothin Burn Center welcomed the Butler family back to the hospital for a moving plaque dedication and art unveiling in gratitude for their generosity and meaningful connection to the Burn Center.

The gathering brought together David and Olga Butler and their sons, Anthony and David, alongside Burn Center clinicians, UCSF Health leadership, and Foundation staff and Board members for a warm and intimate ceremony. Words of appreciation were shared by all, including both David and Olga, who spoke about their family’s experience of care at the Bothin Burn Center and their deep appreciation for the team who walked alongside them.

A highlight of the event was the unveiling of Anthony’s artwork, now part of the Children’s Art Wall at the Bothin Burn Center and a lasting reflection of hope, creativity, and resilience.

The Butlers’ generosity supports the critical work of the Bothin Burn Center, the region’s premier 16-bed intensive care burn unit and the only verified burn center of its kind in Northern California, which cares for approximately 500 seriously burned children and adults each year.

In partnership with donors like the Butlers, Saint Francis Foundation has invested deeply in this essential resource, funding not only significant renovations and expansions but also education and training for highly skilled Burn Center nurses to meet increasing patient demand and sustain excellence in care for San Francisco and the broader region.

Saint Francis Foundation is profoundly grateful to the Butler family for choosing to honor their journey in this way and for helping ensure that other patients and families continue to receive world-class, compassionate burn care when they need it most.

The Butler Family plaque and Anthony’s artwork now displayed at the Burn Center stand as powerful reminders of the healing and hope made possible through this care every day.
