Overview

The Saint Francis Foundation was established in 1979 as an independent, nonprofit corporation to raise and manage private gifts for the benefit of Saint Francis Memorial Hospital (SFMH). Today, the Foundation oversees approximately $80 million in assets pledged to the Hospital and assists in securing gifts from friends, patients, foundations and corporations for special projects and programs.

Who runs the Foundation?

A Board of Directors comprised of community members, physicians, and hospital staff governs the Foundation. The Board size is typically around 27 members. A Foundation staff of six carries out the goals of the Board in consultation with the leadership of SFMH.

Who decides what the Foundation raises money for?

The Board of Directors sets fundraising goals and objectives on an annual basis. The Foundation staff, Board members and community members serving on various committees help to carry out these goals and objectives.

Who does the Foundation ask for money?

The Foundation asks patients and their families, community members, employees, medical staff, volunteers, vendors, corporations and private foundations. We seek cash gifts, gifts by pledge, gifts in kind and gifts by bequest.

When a gift is received, who decides where it goes?

Our donors tell us where they want their gifts directed. A contribution may be directed to a specific department or program, as well as to the “area of greatest need”. These unrestricted gifts permit the Board to decide, on behalf of the community, where the money will have the greatest impact.

Where have past contributions gone?

The Foundation has had specific campaigns to raise money to refurbish the Emergency Department, the Bothin Burn Center, the ICU/CCU, and the surgical suites. Currently, fundraising efforts are focused on acquisition of state-of-the art digital mammography.

Does my gift matter?

Every gift helps the Foundation to support the many and varying needs of Saint Francis Memorial Hospital. Every donation makes a difference and keeps SFMH at the forefront of technologically advanced, patient-focused health care delivery.
